Culture Minister urged to remain committed to Long Kesh stadium
Following the recent internal debates within the DUP over the Long Kesh regeneration proposals, Sinn Féin MLA and culture committee member, Paul Maskey has urged that the Culture Minister remain steadfast in regard to a stadium at Long Kesh.
"It has been previously stated that the argument for an alternative venue for a stadium and conflict resolution centre is over. The development of the Long Kesh site involves two projects, the stadium and the development of the International Centre for Conflict Transformation and the listed prison buildings. This will be a centre to study our past and celebrate our shared future.
"The internal juxtapositioning of the DUP leadership should not have any effect on the need for a stadium and conflict transformation centre.
"The DUP should be sensitive to the feelings of the whole community and should act in the public interest rather than scoring petty political points. Long Kesh has broad cross party support, is at a well advanced stage and the stadium is supported by all of the main sporting bodies."
