DUP's Nigel Dodds remarks are "baffling"-Maskey

6 July, 2007

Responding to Nigel Dodds remarks on the timetable for transfer of policing and justice powers to the six counties, Alex Maskey MLA said,

"I am thoroughly baffled by the inconsistency in Nigel Dodds remarks. Mr Dodds is a Minister in the new power sharing executive and knows that to oppose the May 2008 deadline for transfer of policing and justice is completely out of synche with what is going on around him.

"As a member of the policing board which has been given signifigant powers I find it hard to fathom these remarks and I believe this is another case of the DUP contradicting themselves. For example the DUP leader Ian Paisley gave certain commitments on March 26 2007 and also within the context of the St Andrews agreement I believe Mr Dodds remarks are truly contradictory."
