Translink Urged To Reconsider Decision

19 September, 2003

Former Mayor of Belfast, Sinn Féin Councillor Alex Maskey has described as "particularly disappointing" the decision of Translink to end their nightline services on Friday evenings from the city to outlying towns.

Cllr. Maskey said:

"At a time when we are trying to develop Belfast as a venue for entertainment in the evenings the decision to end the night time service from the city to outlying towns is particularly disappointing.

"This decision will also have additional knock on effects such as the possible rise in drink driving incidents and safety issues, particularly for women.

"Translink is supposed to provide a public service. That is precisely what the nighttime service was about. I would encourage Translink even at this late stage to reconsider their decision and stick with the Friday night service." ENDS
