Local MP describes job losses as ‘massive blow’

1 August, 2007

Sinn Féin Mid-Ulster MP Martin McGuinness today described the 70 job losses at the Saville Row Shirt Factory in Castledawson as a massive blow for the local community.

Mr McGuinness said:

"In recent years the Saville Row Plant in Castledawson has defied many of the market trends and succeeded in staying competitive. It now seems that cheaper options abroad have ensured that many of its customers have turned their backs on the local factory.

"This is a business rooted in the local community and today's announcement is a massive blow for the Caastledawson area, but a particular blow for those families directly affected.

"It is now important that we as an Executive bring forward what support we can for these workers and try and lessen the blow on this small rural area." ENDS
