Sinn Féin Officer Board Meet

19 September, 2003

A meeting of the Sinn Féin Officer Board will take place this morning. Speaking before the meeting National Chairperson Mitchel McLaughlin said:

"Over the past number of weeks the Sinn Féin negotiating team has been involved in a series of discussions. This morning's meeting will provide an opportunity for the Officer Board of the party to review progress in these discussions.

"We are determined to find a resolution to the current crisis. While much of our focus has been on securing a definitive date for the election, it is important that everyone realises that this is a collective endeavour.

"All of the participants, not just republicans, have crucial contributions to make to any resolution. Unionists need to convince nationalists and republicans of their serious intent to work sustainable political institutions and the two governments have outstanding commitments on a range of issues including human rights, equality, demilitarisation and the transfer of powers on policing and justice to address. All of these are serious matters which have to be satisfactorily resolved in the time ahead." ENDS
