Ní Chuilín to chair 'Celebrating diversity' event

10 August, 2007

North Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín shall chair a panel discussion tomorow (Sat 11 August @ 1.30pm St Kevins Hall, North Queen St Belfast ) at the Greater New Lodge Festival aimed at creating an enhanced awareness of Cultural Diversity issues and with the intention to celebrate the welcome addition to Irish society.

Ms Ní Chuilín said,

"I am pleased to be involved with such a positive event which shall auger to create better understaing of different cultures which enrich this city. Other panel members shall include Mr Elm Costa, Catalonian Community, Mr José luis Iparraguirre, Latinoamérica Unida, Mr Henry Lo, Chinese Welfare Association and Nathalie Donnelly, Multi Cultural Resource Centre & Anti -Racism Network.

"Through this discussion it is also hoped that a first step to a more tolerant society shall prevail. Martin Luther King held a dream of a nation where all our gifts and resources are held not for ourselves alone, but as instruments of service for the rest of humanity; the dream of a country where every man will respect the dignity and worth of the human personality.

"There will also be international food stalls as well as information stands which will give people an opportunity to learn more about other cultures in a more practical way. The Belfast Islamic Centre, An Munia Tober, Amnesty International, Chinese Welfare Association, among other groups, will be providing the information stands on the work they do to help their communities."
