Hurricane Dean - Concerned Relatives

21 August, 2007

Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Martina Anderson has said anyone concerned about relatives who are holidaying or working in the Caribbean and may have been caught up in Hurricane Dean should contact the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin.

Ms Anderson said

"My thoughts are with the families of all those who have lost their lives and the thousands of people who have had their homes and businesses destroyed in the devastation caused by Hurricane Dean. There is a concern that the hurricane will go all the way to the destination of Cancun, Mexico which is popular with Irish Tourists.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has said Irish diplomats in the region are in contact with local governments. Anyone who has worries over relatives who may be working or holidaying in the areas effected and have been unable to make contact should get in touch with the DFA in Dublin." ENDS
