Ramsey - Poleglass school destroyed by arsonists

23 September, 2003

Sinn Féin Councillor Sue Ramsey has branded those responsible for an arson attack on an Irish Language Primary School in Poleglass as 'criminal hoods who are seeking to terrorise an entire community'.

Cllr. Ramsey said:

" A few weeks ago this Irish Language Primary School was vandalised and thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused. Despite this attack the school was able to open for the new term as normal.

" Last night one of the mobile classrooms on the site was completely destroyed in an arson attack and another classroom suffered smoke damage. Those responsible for this attack are criminal hoods seeking to terrorise an entire community.

" People in the Poleglass area are sick of this sort of criminal behaviour and outraged that a local primary school has been damaged in this way. It is time for the community to stand up to these individuals and make it very clear to them that this sort of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.' ENDS
