O'Dowd - PSNI Fail To Notify Republicans Under Threat

24 September, 2003

Sinn Féin Representative in Upper Bann Cllr. John O‚Dowd has demanded that the PSNI contact those people in the Lurgan area whose details were found along with a consignment of drugs.

Cllr. O‚Dowd said:

"Yesterday a Lurgan man from a loyalist area appeared in court charged with possession of drugs and possession of details useful to terrorists. Presumably these details are of local republicans and have been in the possession of the PSNI for some days. Despite this no republicans in the Lurgan area have as yet been warned that their personal details are in the hands of unionist paramilitaries.

"The PSNI need to come clean about this matter. Exactly how many people are on this list and who are they. Because of their attitude up to this point republicans and their families have been placed in danger.

"I can only presume that we will not hear the great and the good from the Policing Board speaking out against this threat which is equally as reprehensible as those currently being issued against DDP members but which command much more media attention." ENDS
