Coroner's hearing into six deaths must not have any barriers placed before it- O'Dowd MLA

7 September, 2007

Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd has said that the preliminary hearing from the Coroners office into the deaths of
Sean Burns, Gervaise McKerr and Eugene Toman, Peter Grew and Roddy Carroll and Michael Tighe must not be stifled in any way and is certainly overdue.

He said,

"This preliminary hearing is long overdue and my thoughts are with the families as they continue their search for the truth into these murders.

"Sinn Féin has long demanded the truth into shoot-to-kill and other cover-ups by the British war machine.

"I certainly hope that no barriers will be placed in the way of John Leckey this time and I urge Hugh Orde not to sanction public immunity certificates as this would not be appropriate.
