Zimbabwean family must immediately be released from detention - Doolan

10 September, 2007

Following the arrest of a Zimbabwean family in Belfast by immigration authorities Sinn Féin Dublin Councillor Daithí Doolan said:

“This morning my colleague Alex Maskey MLA for South Belfast expressed his outrage at the arrest and the subsequent moving of the family to Dublin.

“I share Alex’s concern for the family and call on the 6-county immigration authorities to immediately instruct the relevant authorities here in Dublin to release the family and return them to their home in Belfast.

“The Hove family have not committed any crime. They have lived in Belfast for the last 5 years and their legal case to remain on the island is currently going through the courts. It is a scandal that the family have not been afforded due legal process.

“I strongly condemn the actions of the immigration authorities and like my colleague Alex Maskey pledge that Sinn Féin will do its utmost to free the family to allow them to remain in Ireland.” CRÍOCH
