Audit Report into Education ‘Pathfinder’ PFI projects raise many concerns
Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd MLA, who is the chairperson of the Assembly Public Accounts Committee, has said that the Audit Office Report into the 'Transfer of Surplus Land in the PFI Education Pathfinder Projects' raises many serious concerns about PFI particularly as a number of land deals are being contemplated as part of 2010.
Mr O'Dowd said:
"This report examines the transfer of land to the private sector as part of a number of Education PFI 'Pathfinder' contracts, including the Balmoral High School which is due to close next year.
"The report raises many serious concerns particularly the loss of something like £4 million through under valuation of land assets and the inability of government departments to demonstrate value for money in the PFI process.
"The report is particularly relevant given the determination of some to press ahead with 2010 which includes a large number of land deals." END
