Westland Street Incident

12 September, 2007

Commenting on the disturbance in Westland Street last night Derry City Councillor Peter Anderson said:

"Our community has been plagued by anti-community activity for too long. We need proper policing and when the PSNI come into our area investigating activity and criminal behaviour that hurts that community they should be allowed to carry out those investigations without hindrance.

"Those involved in preventing investigations designed to rid our society of anti-community activities are only prolonging the agony for their neighbours including the elderly who have become hostages in their own homes because of the activities of a minority.

"If we are to construct a society in which we can have pride then we must send out a strong message of rejection to those who are intent on disrupting our lives." ENDS
