Attack on Harry Holland a 'dreadful and despicable attack'

12 September, 2007

Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey, who is a close friend of the family of Harry Holland, has described the brutal attack on west Belfast man Harry Holland as a 'dreadful and despicable act.'

Mr. Maskey attended the hospital this morning with the family.

Speaking this afternoon he said:

"Harry Holland is a good friend. I have known him and the Holland family for many, many years. The whole community, but especially his friends and neighbours on the Glen Road are deeply shocked by what has happened.

"I would urge anyone with any information about last nights attack on Harry to quickly make it available to the PSNI so that those responsible can be charged and convicted." ENDS

Note to editor:

Two Sinn Féin Councillors Paul Maskey and Chrissie Nic Giolla Mhéin live in Norfolk Drive. Both witnessed part of what occurred last night and have made witness statements to the PSNI. Consequently, in order not to prejudice any potential prosecution both have been advised not to do interviews.
