de Brún encourages schools to win a trip to European Parliament
Sinn Féin's Six County MEP Bairbre de Brún has today called on local schools and pupils to take the opportunity to participate in an all-Ireland photo competition organised by the European Parliament office in Dublin in conjunction with the two Environment Departments North and South. The photos must explore the issue of Climate Change.
Speaking from Brussels after today's meeting of the European Parliament's Climate Change committee of which she is a member the local MEP Ms de Brún commented:
"Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing the world today and people across Ireland are as concerned about its potential effects as people anywhere else. Young people in particular are keen to play their part in combating climate change, and this competition provides an excellent opportunity to do so and also to win a trip for their class to the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
"In an age when so may people are doing their bit to combat climate change whether through renewable energy, recycling, greener transport or other greener technologies, capturing these efforts on camera can help publicise these efforts and to win a prize for the local school. There are only a few weeks left so I would encourage young people to get busy with their cameras, if they don't already have suitable photographs of their own.
"I look forward to welcoming the winner and his or her class to Strasbourg and am confident that local pupils have the talent to win out." ENDS
