Stand up for Derry campaign set for Stormont and the Guildhall
Sinn Féin in Derry have announced that they are to take the Stand Up for Derry campaign to both the Stormont Executive and Derry City Council.
Foyle MLAs Martina Anderson and Raymond McCartney have written to request an all party meeting with the Stormont Executive and the party is putting a motion before Derry City Council tomorrow (Tuesday 27th November) calling for the local Council to support the campaign
Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson said:
"The Stand Up For Derry campaign was established after the publication of the Draft Budget, Programme for Government and Investment Strategy.
"For decades Derry and the greater North West of Ireland has suffered from systemic neglect and this can be borne out by various reports and statistics highlighting deprivation and inequalities. Given the Executive's commitments in the Programme for Government and Investment Strategy to tackling existing patterns of inequality and addressing regional disparities we have formally requested that an all party delegation of Ministers accepts a letter from the campaign group immediately prior to its next meeting."
Sinn Féin Group leader on Derry City Council Councillor Maeve Mc Laughlin said
"On Tuesday we will be placing a motion before council calling for its support for the "Stand up for Derry" campaign and that the council provides all practical assistance in pursuit of the campaigns aims and objectives. It's crucial that everyone gets behind this campaign. We are simply not prepared to let Derry be overlooked anymore. The people of this city deserve better and we intend to ensure that they get it."
