Shock at tragic death after school bus accident

27 February, 2008

Sinn Féin Fermanagh South Tyrone MP Michelle Gildernew has said that local people are shocked after the death of a young girl involved in the accident involving a school bus carrying children to St Mary's Cabragh and St Ciarans High School, Ballygawley.

Speaking from the scene Ms Gildernew said:

"This is a tragic loss of life that has sent shockwaves through the local community. I join with everyone in sending support to the family.

"I am aware that another child is also still seriously ill in hospital.

"At this awful time I know that everyone in this community will pull together and offer support to all of the families affected by this tragedy.

"The road on which this accident occurred is a notorious black spot which has been the scene of many fatal accidents over the years. Upgrading work of the road has now begun and I hope that when it is completed that it will see the end of these awful scenes of human tragedy. In the meantime, while the road works are progressing I want to make a special appeal to drivers to be extra careful while travelling on this road." ENDS
