de Brún votes in favour of EU money for flood repairs

12 March, 2008

MEP Bairbre de Brún has joined MEPs from across the EU last night to vote the approval of EU money to regions including the North of Ireland hit by floods and heavy rainfall in June and July 2007. Ms de Brún has welcomed the support of colleagues from elsewhere in the EU.

Speaking after the vote in the European Parliament, Ms de Brún said:

"The EU has pledged €164.2m to the regions affected by this usually heavy rainfall last summer. While the North of Ireland was not affected to the same extent as areas across the water, I am sure now that our local institutions are up and running we can claim our fair share for those parts of the North that were affected."

"The money will come from the EU Solidarity Fund which is an EU fund designed to be mobilised after such disasters." Críoch
