Boylan welcomes Clinton meeting with Irish Forum

12 March, 2008

Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and South Armagh, Cathal Boylan, has welcomed news that Hilary Clinton is to meet with a Forum of Irish American voters during her campaign for the Democratic nomination for the US Presidency.

As well as speaking about the Peace process in the North of Ireland she will also be discussing concerns on Irish immigrants.

Mr Boylan, who has consistently highlighted the plight of Irish people in the States with no recognized status, said:

"I am delighted that Hilary Clinton is the first candidate to raise the issue of Irish immigrants, the so called 'Undocumented Irish' in this campaign.

"This will be an opportunity for concerned lobbyists to raise the issue directly with someone who very possibly will be the next President.

"I recently wrote to all the candidates on this issue, and I hope both Barack Obama and John McCain will take similar opportunities to listen to the concerns of the Irish - American community in the near future." ENDS
