Comments on St Patrick ’s Day Attack in Newry

18 March, 2008

Sinn Féin Newry MLA Mickey Brady said that he was saddened to hear of the attack on a young person in Newry.

Mr Brady said:

"The news is deeply distressing and puts a cloud on what was a terrific celebration of St Patrick 's Day here in the city. I like the entire community would hope that the young person recovers fully from this traumatic incident.

"Unfortunately this type of violence and vicious assault is all too familiar news on our streets, not only in Newry but throughout the North.

"Sinn Féin will be asking the DPP to review the police resources and strategies employed for Newry City Centre, particularly at night time. Assault, serious anti-social behaviour and vandalism is becoming a serious problem. It has to be addressed." ENDS
