Anniversary of smoking ban
Sinn Féin MLA for Mid Ulster, Michelle O'Neill, who is the deputy chair of the Assembly Health Committee, has celebrated the fact that the majority of enclosed work and public places have enjoyed a healthier, smoke-free environment for a year.
Mrs O'Neill said:
"This has been a most important goal for public health. We now benefit from a much healthier and comfortable environment. It provides employees with protection from second hand smoking and a more relaxed environment when out socializing with family and friends."
She also said:
"I believe that it has also helped persuade many smokers to at least cut down on the number of cigarettes they smoke or even quit the habit.
We do not want to breathe in other people's smoke and I am thrilled that for everyone in Northern Ireland, and for the generations to come, the smoke-free environment will be custom." ENDS
