Green Ministers hysteria no substitute for reasoned debate
Dublin South West Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has called on the Government to stop the cut of 120 staff at Crumlin Chilldren's Hospital. Speaking in the Dáil today as staff members and supporters of the hospital staged a protest the hospital outside Deputy Ó Snodaigh said the Government must respond positively to the demonstration by stopping the cuts and addressing the excessive waste of money by the HSE on unnecessary advisors and endless reports.
He said, "Despite the government and HSE recognition that Crumlin Childrens' Hospital has increased its out patient activity by 8%, the number of inpatients by 2% and the number of day cases dealt with by 12.3% it is still being penalised by the imposition of a staff cut of 120 amounting to almost 10% of its workforce.
"The government must support and respond positively to staff members who are staging a demonstration outside the hospital this afternoon by stopping the cuts at the Crumlin Children's Hospital and instead intervene to halt the excessive waste of money by the HSE on unnecessary advisors and endless reports etc. €43 million was spent on advise last year yet staff at the frontline are the ones who are being cut."
