Followers of Gaelic Games loosing confidence in Campbell day by day – McElduff
Sinn Féin West Tyrone MLA Barry McElduff has criticised DCAL Minister Gregory Campbell for his blasé attitude towards Tyrone's all-Ireland winning side.
Mr McElduff said,
"Speaking about the stunning Tyrone victory this morning Gregory Campbell spent more time engaging in petty remarks as opposed to commending the men on winning the most prestigious title in Ireland.
"I have been contacted by numerous people from throughout Tyrone associated with Gaelic Games who were deeply annoyed by the Minister's, at best flippant attitude towards Tyrone's all-Ireland victory.
"This is a huge source of pride for the people of Tír Eoghain and indeed people across the nine counties of Ulster. As Minister for sport, Gregory Campbell could at the very least acknowledge and commend their victory directly as opposed to dancing around the issue.
"Gaels are becoming increasingly disillusioned with a Minister more focused on petty remarks regarding the all-Ireland final and someone more focused on Glasgow Rangers than the local all-Ireland winners.
"I am formally requesting that the Minister and his department host the Tyrone senior footballing team in line with similar events held for the Armagh winners in 2002 and for the Tyrone teams in 2003 and 2005.
"As a proud Tyrone Gael I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Mickey Harte and the Tyrone side on their marvellous victory and commend the Kerry players for a well fought game. This is our third all-Ireland title in the past six years and that is something that we in Tyrone and people across Ireland will rightly recognise and be proud of.
"Comhgairdeas Tír Eoghain!"
