Ferris Questions Haulbowline Report
Sinn Féin Spokesperson on the Environment, Martin Ferris TD has questioned whether the report on the level of threat posed by buried waste at Haulbowline has fully explored all aspects of the issue. And whether all the relevant previous reports, including one showing high levels of cancer in the area have been adequately addressed.
Deputy Ferris said:
"While I welcome the report and would like to think that it represents a genuine settling of the serious concerns that have been expressed over a long number of years regarding the threat to people in the vicinity, I believe that there are still questions to be asked.
"There have been a number of reports over the years, which have taken a long time to emerge and there are still doubts with regard to whether all the facts and previous findings are in the public domain. Not to mention the unresolved issue of why the prevalence of cancer in the area is so much higher than the national average. I would therefore call on Minister Gormley to publish or republish all previous reports on the site along with the current report." ENDS
