Ó Snodaigh welcomes conclusion to Dublin Docklands dispute
Dublin Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has welcomed the decision of management at Marine Terminals Limtied to accept the recommendations of the Labour Court bringing an end to the industrial dispute at the Dublin Docklands. Deputy Ó Snodaigh congratulated the workers for standing up for their themselves in the face of a determined effort by management to undermine their pay and conditions and force redundancies.
Speaking this evening Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:
"I welcome the news this evening the management at Marine Terminals Limited have accepted the recommendations of the Labour Court. This should now bring and end to the dispute and I congratulate the workers for standing up for their themselves in the face of a determined effort by management to undermine their pay and conditions and force redundancies.
"The striking dockers have been an example to other workers throughout the state who are struggling to retain their hard won terms and conditions of employment. I would now urge the management at Coca Cola to take a lead from Marine Terminals Limited before the strike at their company and the boycott of their products escalates.
"In the past number of months we have seen an increasing amount of companies attempting to use the current recession and in particular the unemployment crisis as an excuse to drive down hard fought terms and conditions for workers. This practice must be stamped out and Sinn Féin will continue to stand side by side with workers such as those at Dublin Port and Coca Cola and others as they stand up for their rights." ENDS
