Ferris criticises failure to make full payment of REPS
The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Agriculture, Martin Ferris TD has criticised the failure of the Department of Agriculture to make available full REPS IV payments.
Deputy was responding to a statement from the Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith, in response to a Dáil question, in which he said that he hoped to make 75% of each payment in mid December.
Deputy Ferris said: “The failure to make full payment of REPS has become an annual event. Despite the rigorous assessment procedures which take up so much of farmers time, we have seen a pattern where payments are not made available until the following year.
“While the 75% payment to be prior to Christmas, especially at a time when many farmers are suffering the effects of flooding, is to be welcomed, many farmers will once again be under financial constraint pending the full payment.” ENDS
