UUP leader comments are more to do with upcoming election than securing transfer - Leonard

13 January, 2010

Sinn Féin MLA for East Derry Billy Leonard has branded today’s remarks from UUP leader Reg Empey as ‘Unionist politicking at its best’.

Commenting this afternoon Mr Leonard said;

“Its apparent that Reg Empey’s remarks have more to do with electioneering than they do with securing the best possible deal for people in the north.

Reg seems more determined to play petty electioneering than he is to securing the necessary powers on policing and justice transferred to local and accountable politicians.

This period is far too important for the leader of one of the four main parties to be engaging in blatant vote mongering at the behest of the British Tory party.

It is unfortunate and I would hope that Reg will see sense in the immediate time ahead and start contributing positively to this process.” CRÍOCH
