Minister must intervene so that Gaza - bound ship can begin humanitarian aid voyage – Ó Snodaigh

13 May, 2010 - by Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD and Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs is calling on the Minister for Transport to intercede immediately with a situation where the Port Authority and Customs and Excise in Dundalk port are preventing a ship laden with humanitarian aid destined for Gaza from leaving because it has a tricolour painted on its side.

He said:

“This is a ridiculous situation where the hampering of a relief effort is being caused; the reason being given that the Irish flag on the MV Rachel Corrie must be painted over even though this is an Irish vessel. I am calling on the Minister to immediately intervene and release the ship so that no more precious time is wasted.” ENDS
