Luas Green Line extension welcomed
South Dublin Sinn Féin Representative Shaun Tracey has welcomed the opening of the Luas Green Line extension to Cherrywood this morning. However Mr Tracey said Dublin Bus services in the area should not be diminished as overcrowding on the Luas line will be a problem particularly at peak times.
Speaking this morning Mr Tracey said:
“As somebody who uses the Green Luas line on a daily basis I am well aware of the overcrowding problems on the original line with many passengers left on the platform and passengers crammed in like sardines at peak times.
“The new extension to the Green line, opened this morning, will provide a first class service for thousand of people in this area and it is very much welcomed.
“However it is clear that overcrowding at peak hours is going to be a problem and it is imperative that bus services are not diminished in the area as a result of the opening of this new extension.
“Reliable bus services will be required to relief peak hour demand on the Luas line. The Luas line should not replace existing bus services but rather they should both support and compliment each other.” ENDS
