Mickey Brady – “Removal of baby element from Tax Credit a paper exercise”
Sinn Féin Benefits spokesperson Mickey Brady has criticised the move to abolish the baby element of Child Tax Credit from 6 April 2010.
Speaking from Stormont today Mr Brady said;
“This move is a retrograde one and in particular during this time of economic hardship will cause greater distress to parents of young children.
The initial report indicated that this was a like for like change but after questioning at the committee it became clear that this would actually mean a £10.50 loss for people with children under the age of one.
The committee has written to the Department of Social Development seeking urgent clarification on this matter.” CRÍOCH
