Pathetic Green Party prolonging the agony – Ó Caoláin

11 January, 2011 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has described as “pathetic” the response of the Green Party to the revelations of contacts between the Taoiseach Brian Cowen and Seán Fitzpatrick, chair of the corrupt Anglo-Irish Bank.

He said:

“This is a pathetic response from a pathetic Green Party. There seems to be nothing that Fianna Fáil can do that will prompt the Greens to leave Government.

“On the Opposition benches in the last Dáil the Green Party were loud in their condemnation of the Golden Circle of conservative politicians and developers that was running the economy into the ground. In Government the Green Party has signed up to the disastrous policies that are making the recession worse – including the sell-out of economic sovereignty to the IMF & EU, the banking fiasco and NAMA.

“It is no surprise that the Greens should swallow the further revelations of how the Golden Circle worked as a serving Taoiseach played golf and dined with the head of a corrupt bank which, a matter of weeks later, he bailed out at astronomical cost to the Irish economy.

“The Green Party is prolonging the agony – not just by postponing the General Election but by putting in place economic measures that spell continuing recession, unemployment and emigration. This is the second time in a week that John Gormley has insulted the intelligence of the electorate – the last being when he tried to claim last week that the Greens’ former deadline of the end of January was not a deadline at all but a suggested date for the announcement of a General Election.” ENDS
