McCann calls for immediate release of seriously ill constituent
Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann has called on Justice Minister David Ford to delay no longer and order the immediate release of Brendan Lillis from Maghaberry Prison.
The West Belfast representative was part of a Sinn Féin delegation that visited prisoners, including Lillis, in Maghaberry earlier this month and said she had wrote to the Minister that night calling for the release of Lillis on humanitarian grounds.
“We saw with our own eyes the dire state of health that Brendan Lillis was in. David Ford has yet to reply to my letter and I again call on him to take immediate action and release this man on humanitarian grounds.
“I know our party colleague Martin McGuinness has spoken to David Ford on the matter and I would again impress upon the Justice Minister the need to take swift action in the case.”
Jennifer McCann has spoken to Brendan Lillis’s partner Roisín Lynch and is hoping to return to Maghaberry tomorrow to get a further update on his health.
