de Brún Nominated As Sinn Féin Candidate
Sinn Féin six county EU candidate Bairbre de Brún this morning handed in her nomination papers. She was joined by party President Gerry Adams, Armagh Mayor Pat O'Rawe and Chief Negotiator Martin McGuinness MP.
Speaking from outside the electoral office Ms de Brún said:
" I am delighted and honoured to be selected as one of the Sinn Féin candidates in the forthcoming EU election. We are the only party standing candidates in all five Irish constituencies. We do not take the electorate for granted but I am confident that we will have a successful election in the six counties and indeed across the island.
" The elections of course also fall at a significant time in the wider peace process. The electorate have the opportunity to once again endorse our peace strategy and send us into future negotiations in a stronger position than before to stand up for their rights and entitlements.
" It is this agenda of change which we want to bring into the heart of the EU following next months poll. Sinn Féin will be a new, radical voice in Europe and I am confident that voters will respond to that vision through the course of the campaign." ENDS
