True measure of government’s performance can be seen in queues for working abroad expos
Speaking in response to the publication of the government’s first progress report after one year in office Sinn Féin’s Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has said the real measure of the government’s success can be seen in the long line of people queuing at the working abroad exhibitions in Dublin and Cork.
Deputy McDonald said:
“This report is a propaganda exercise which ignores the huge failures of this government since taking office this time last year.
“The report conveniently fails to mention several of the government’s broken promises such as the commitment that not one red cent more would be put into the banks, that third level fees would not rise and that there would be major investment in jobs.
“It also re-commits the government to the failed policy of austerity which is stifling growth and adding more people to the dole queues each week.
“The true measure of the performance of this government over the past year is not in today's report but in the long lines of people queuing at the working abroad exhibitions in Dublin and Cork.
“This is the ultimate vote of no confidence in a government that has not only failed to take measures to address unemployment but that wants to tie us into policies that will prevent this and future governments from developing the economy.”
