Alliance accused of hypocrisy

12 June, 2012 - by Phil Flanagan

Sinn Féin MLA Phil Flanagan has accused the Alliance Party of displaying breath taking hypocrisy after a statement from Cllr. Conrad Dixon claimed that Alliance had led the way in ending double jobbing.

Mr Flanagan said:

“Yesterday after Sinn Féin moved to end the practice of double jobbing decisively the Alliance Party issued a statement in the name of Cllr. Conrad Dixon claiming that his party has led the way on the issue of ending the practice.

“Either Cllr. Dixon has been badly informed or he was deliberately trying to mislead. The fact of the matter is that the Alliance Party MLAs are serial double jobbers. Sinn Féin have moved over recent years firstly to end the practice of double jobbing between local government and the Assembly and now between the Assembly and Westminster.

“No doubt since Cllr. Dixon has such firm views on double jobbing he can tell us what is his opinion of Alliance MLAs Kieran McCarthy and Stewart Dickson holding positions as local councillors. Maybe in future Cllr. Dixon should check the factual situation within his own party before he opens his mouth to criticise others.”
