Kelly welcomes lifting of threat to community and voluntary workers in Ardoyne

3 August, 2012 - by Gerry Kelly

North Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has welcomed the statement from GARC that there is no threat against community and voluntary sector workers in the area.

 Gerry Kelly said:

“Following local outrage at the leaflet issued to community and voluntary workers in Ardoyne by GARC recently it is welcome news that GARC have withdrawn any possible threat.

“GARC’s new spokesperson Paul Carson handed a letter to Director of Community Resorative Justice Ireland at a multi-agency meeting today in Ardoyne in which the group said'... there is no threat, implied or otherwise against the community and voluntary sector working in Greater Ardoyne'.

“This is welcome news and these vital workers within Ardoyne will now be able to continue their work without having to worry that they are under threat. It is now time for other groups and individuals attempting to villify people working for and in Ardoyne to desist from those practices.”
