CAFRE a great choice for our young people

12 February, 2013 - by Chris Hazzard

South Down MLA Chris Hazzard has welcomed the recent statistics showing that over 91% of graduates from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) were in employment or further educational study less than 6 months after they graduated.

The Sinn Féin Education spokesperson said it was a “fantastic illustration of the great work being done in our Agricultural campuses and demonstrates the strength of our local rural industries.”

Mr Hazzard, who also sits on the Agriculture Committee at Stormont, said that the findings should give thought to our young people who are deciding what career path to embark upon in the coming months.

 Mr Hazzard said:

“With campuses in Enniskillen, Loughry, and Greenmount – CAFRE offers a unique and world class educational experience for many of our young students. With full-time and part-time courses delivered on a vast array of subjects, the local Agricultural industries are benefiting immensely from the growing popularity of CAFRE courses.

“Despite the economic climate having a hugely negative impact upon most areas of employment, it is fantastic to see so many of our young graduates contributing to a strong and vigorous agricultural and rural economy here in Ireland.”

 Mr Hazzard added:

“I would call on all our young people to have a serious look at the benefits of a career in the Agricultural sector, and indeed if this is something that excites them – I am delighted to say that there is no better college in Ireland or Europe for that matter, than our own College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise.”
