Poots summoned to appear before Health Committee – Sue Ramsey

7 May, 2013 - by Sue Ramsey

Sinn Féin MLA Sue Ramsey said she will be summoning the Health Minister Edwin Poots in front of the Health Committee next week to explain his role in the fiasco around the care homes.

The West Belfast MLA and Chair of the Assembly’s Health Committee said:

“Clearly there is widespread concern and unease at the way in which the minister and the Trusts handled the issue of Residential Care Homes last week. It was unacceptable and unnecessary.

“As Chair of the Health Committee I have requested that the minister appears in front of committee to explain his role in this debacle.

“We need to know all of the information including when the Health Minister became aware of the plans by the Trusts and when he decided to act.

“On the issue of Transforming Your Care (TYC), I have to say I had serious concerns for some time about aspects of the plan beyond elderly care and I met the Trade Unions on this last week

“It is my intention to bring proposals to the Health Committee for a wider examination of TYC including concerns around issues like privatisation of services, which we as a party oppose.” CRÍOCH/END
