Politicians should not add to tension – Alex Maskey
Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey said those responsible for burning a car used by a German business delegation could have damaged future jobs in their area.
The South Belfast MLA said:
“Those behind the attack should take note that the business delegation could have brought jobs to their area.
“It is noteworthy that this car, with a southern registration plate, is burned on the same day that an elected politician says it is part of his culture to burn flags.
“We are now entering a volatile time of the year and I would call on all those speaking on behalf of the community to choose their words carefully. Tensions can be high enough without someone adding to them.
“I hope the delegation affected will not let this put them off coming to Ireland, North or South, and that they will realise that those who carried it out are unrepresentative of the wider community.”
