Minister Rabbitte must listen to community's concerns about EirGrid Pylons – Cullinane

14 November, 2013 - by David Cullinane TD

Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane has tonight stated that it is imperative that Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte listens to the concerns of the community regarding EirGrid proposed Pylon network.

Senator Cullinane said:

“Communities are rightly concerned about EirGrid's plans. We are talking about a network of 43 metre high pylons carrying 400 watt power lines across the heart of the state.

“The impact of these unwanted and unsightly pylons on our landscape, built heritage, and on tourism will be considerable. There are also very serious worries surrounding the potential devaluation of farm land and residential property as a result. The government has to address these issues in a meaningful way.

“Minister Rabbitte must listen to the very real concerns of the communities and the views of cross-party opposition.

“Also, the campaign groups should be commended and supported in their efforts.

“Undergrounding is a sensible and sustainable alternative. The government should commit to that course of action immediately.”
