Quarterly Household Survey concerning for young unemployed – Reilly
Speaking following the publication of the Quarterly Household Survey, Sinn Féin Senator Kathryn Reilly said;
“The increase in employment is to be welcomed. It should be noted that the majority of this is due to the increase in the number of self-employed. This confirms what we have consistently maintained, that our people are hungry for work and just need the opportunity.
“I remain concerned that there are 23,300 less people under the age of 34 in work and 51,200 young workers of the same age have left the labour market since this government came to power.
“It is clear that emigration is having a huge impact on jobs and the economy. The government is failing to provide jobs and hope for young workers and this is undermining long term sustainable recovery.”
