Donnelly welcomes moving of Dublin West by-election writ

1 May, 2014

Sinn Féin’s Dublin West by-election candidate Paul Donnelly has welcomed the moving of the writ in the Dáil today.

Speaking this afternoon Donnelly said;

“I welcome the government’s swift action in moving the writ at this early stage and I recognise the sensitivities involved given the recent passing of Nicky McFadden leading to the other by-election in Longford/Westmeath.

“Sinn Féin is in this by-election to win it and we are confident that we can. Over the course of the last few months we have been receiving an extremely positive response to our message of putting Ireland first locally, nationally and at an EU level.

“We have been campaigning hard against austerity, promoting our job creation proposals and setting out Sinn Féin’s alternative proposals.

“The reality is that people are not just sick, tired and angry at the government, there is now a realisation that people cannot afford this government and its policies.

“Ordinary people in our communities don’t just want change – they need it.

“On May 23rd Sinn Féin is offering them the change they need. We are the main opposition party in the Dáil and in our communities and I believe that people will come out in big numbers to support us in this election. And I believe we will win this seat.”
