Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann has met PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Will Kerr to discuss recent racist attacks in Belfast.

West Belfast MLA said: “There is a lot of fear within ethnic minority communities following the recent spate of racially motivated attacks.

“This fear is felt particularly in east and north Belfast, but also in other areas across the North.

"I met today with PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Will Kerr to find out for myself what is being done stop these disgraceful attacks.

“It was a positive meeting and I made him aware of the concerns of the victims.

"It is clear the UVF is behind these attacks.

“I asked the PSNI to ensure every effort is made to end these attacks and catch those responsible.

“I have also met the Polish honorary consul and spoken to a number of families who have been intimidated and assured them of our support.

“I have talked too with the Romanian ambassador to reassure him that we are doing all we can to combat racism and to make sure those responsible are brought to justice."
