Clarification on water meters welcomed
Belfast Sinn Féin Councillor Stephen Magennis has welcomed clarification from the NI Water Chief Executive Sara Venning that no water meters are being installed in any domestic or residential properties.
Councillor Magennis said,
“Sinn Féin attended a presentation by Chief Executive of NI Water Sara Venning. At this meeting we raised concerns that some constituents had raised with regards to installing water meters.
“We received clarification that no meters have been installed nor will NI Water be installing water meters in homes.
‘Sinn Féin reiterated our opposition to water charges reinforcing our position that essential maintenance and upgrades of the system must go ahead.
“I welcome the fact that the Chief Executive outlined the programme of works currently being carried out in the Belfast area including £14m in projects in Sicily Park, Orangeville and Ormeau Roads area.
Councillor Magennis added,“Given the clarification by Ms Venning that no waters meters are to be installed I would appeal to those who have embarked on a campaign of intimidation against workers carrying out improvements to now desist from any further actions.”
