Irish language community deserve programmes in Irish
Sinn Féin Irish language spokesperson Rosie McCorley has written to Ulster Television to discuss the issue of programming through the medium of Irish.
Ms. McCorley said,
“There is a growing Irish language community across the North. It is important therefore the needs of this community are met by broadcasters and that Irish language programmes are aired on a regular basis.
“This is not about programmes about the language but broadcasting programmes through the medium of Irish.
“UTV is due to launch its new service UTV Ireland from the beginning of next year.
“I along with Sinn Féin’s national Irish language co-ordinator Mícheál Ó Domhnaill will be meeting with senior management of Ulster Television to see what can be done to increase the use of the language throughout the network.” ENDS/CRÍOCH
