Have your say on future of Irish language funding - McCorley

10 October, 2014 - by Rosie McCorley

Sinn Féin MLA Rosie McCorley has encouraged people to have their say on the future of Irish language funding.

The West Belfast MLA said;

"Foras na Gaeilge is currently carrying out a consultation on the ongoing review of Scéim Phobail Gaeilge.

"This includes proposals for radical changes to the way Irish language organisations are currently funded.

"I have concerns about some elements of the proposals, including plans to introduce geographical criteria in the funding process rather than base applications solely on need.

"It is essential that people have the opportunity to have their say on these proposals and I would encourage anyone involved in the Irish language to take part in the consultation.

"Responses to the consultation need to be in by 1pm on November 21."
