McMullan meets MS Society over Dalriada closure plans

6 November, 2014 - by Oliver McMullan

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan met with the MS Society today to discuss concerns over the proposed closure of the respite unit at Dalriada Hospital.

Speaking after the meeting at Stormont, the East Antrim MLA said;

"I met with Brenda Maguire, campaigns manager with the MS Society, at Stormont today alongside my party colleague and North Antrim MLA Daithí McKay.

"We discussed the concerns over the proposed closure of the MS respite unit at Dalriada hospital and the huge negative impact it it would have on patients.

"The impact of the closure of this much-needed facility would be felt far beyond the 60 users of the unit.

"By its very nature, this unit provides respite services so its closure would also impact on the families of those who use this facility.

"This has not been taken into account by the Northern Trust.

"The MS respite unit at Dalriada has provided a great service to people for many years and it does not make any sense to close it.

"The financial arguments put forward by the Trust simply do not add up and I am calling for this proposal to be abandoned."
