Statements on allegations must be sensitive to victims needs and not prejudice legal process – Ó Snodaigh
The Government has invited statements in the Dáil on allegations regarding sexual abuse by members of the Republican Movement.
Speaking in response to this Sinn Féin Party Whip Aengus Ó Snodaigh said:
“The issue of abuse remains in the shadows of communities and families across Ireland. Any debate that addresses the issue in an informed and sensitive matter is to be welcomed.
“Over the last two weeks we have witnessed the Taoiseach and the Fianna Fáil leader set aside due process and the findings of the court.
“They have sought to play party political football with this matter and ignored undergoing reviews.
“This debate must be conducted in a way that is sensitive to the needs of victims, is informed and reflective of the complexity of issue and does not prejudice any legal process.”
