Anderson welcomes ban on 'legal high' sales
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has welcomed a move to ban the sale of so-called 'legal highs' in the North.
Speaking after the High Court in Belfast granted an injunction against the sale and advertisement of the substances, Ms Anderson said;
"These toxic substances known as legal highs are causing untold misery across communities.
"This injunction, which came about as a result of a case taken by Belfast City Council and the Attorney General, is a very welcome development.
"It is a landmark ruling that will stop the sale of these substances and potentially save lives in the process.
"As an MEP I have been working with a range of groups and individuals to tackle the problems caused by legals highs.
"This move by Belfast City Council, led by Sinn Féin councillors, shows what can be achieved and I would encourage other councils to follow their lead and work with them to help stamp out this scourge from our society."
