Health minister's fig leaf on Dalriada fools no one – McKay

25 November, 2014

Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has said the decision by the health minister to launch a public consultation on the closure of Dalriada Hospital is nothing more than a stay of execution.

The North Antrim MLA said;

"Today the minister announced he was going to hold a public consultation on the future of Dalriada Hospital. This is nothing more than a delaying tactic to take pressure off himself and the Northern Trust.

"He has not lifted the ban on admissions to Dalriada and not provided any reassurance to staff based at the hospital.

"This will ensure the Northern Trust can continue with their plans to close the hospital.

"This fig-leaf fools no one. The minister is clearly working in conjunction with the Trust to close the hospital but wants to deflect any criticism away from himself.

"That is not acceptable to the people of Ballycastle, the communities of the north coast or the patients at Dalriada who will continue to campaign for the retention of the services at the hospital."
